Black Accessory Designers Alliance™, formerly Style NOIR, hosted its New York Fashion Week Pop Up on Tuesday, February 16 from 5 p.m to 8 p.m. at Lecture Loft in West Chelsea.
The initiative was created last year by fashion industry veterans Velvet Lattimore and Wilbur Pack, Jr. in an effort to bring awareness to emerging Black accessory designers. “As small business owners tackling current economic challenges, it is very important to Velvet and me to provide visibility to other black fashion professionals and us, as well,” states Pack. Lattimore agrees, “Our community’s success is contingent upon us collectively pooling our resources.” Once again Ms. Lattimore, owner of Vedazzling Accessories Boutique in DUMBO, Brooklyn acted as the event’s presenter.
This season’s participants included interior design maven Ursallie Smith of Rococo Design, Inc. who unveiled her collection of unique decorative pillows, Ronnetta J. Coleman – a jewelry artisan who dazzled with pieces inspired by Cleopatra and Nefertiti, and Mr. Pack showed his fall collection of sexy handcrafted bags from his SK WiLBUR line.
Invited guests included Dominican TV personality/actor/director Mario Peguero. Public Relations guru and part-time model Dally Perez modeled a look from the knitwear line Batista Collection.
Style influencers and fashion aficionados were treated to a wine tasting provided by Brooklyn’s black-owned Bed-Vyne Wine. The shop, located at 370 Tompkins Avenue, specializes in finding the right wine for the individual with an inventory that not only reflects the diversity of the neighborhood, but also has low, medium and high price points in each category.
Interior Designer Ursallie Smith, owner of Rococo Design Interiors, revealed her sophisticated, yet bold use of color, pattern, and texture with her breathtaking display of decorative pillows and French Louis XV chairs.
Ronnetta J. Coleman, owner/designer of Ronnetta J. Coleman Jewelry & Accessories, proved that there is nothing better than the gold standard with opulent molded wire bracelets and necklaces.
Wilbur Pack, Jr., the designer behind the handcrafted bag line SK WiLBUR, created a collection he calls “Collage”. A mashup of leather, fur, denim, and metal, these bags are functional works of art.
The evening’s presenter, Velvet Lattimore, owner of Vedazzling Accessories Boutique at 145 Front Street in Brooklyn’s DUMBO, featured items from a swath of independent emerging accessory designers and served cupcakes from upcoming pastry chef Charnelle McMillan of Designs-n-Delights.
